Description:
New York: Dutton, 1947. First Edition; advance copy of the author's first book in publisher’s wrappers. Aside from a small chip at the bottom of the spine and the front wrapper, very good. Before the book made the trip from the printer to the bindery, the publisher bound the sheets in the dust jacket, without the flaps. These were certainly issued in small numbers for limited distribution to booksellers, reviewers and salespeople. The latter decades of the 20th century brought a deluge of advance copies as these became inexpensive to produce and release in huge numbers, but those from an earlier period, uncommon to begin with, often perished due to their ephemeral nature.

Description:
Paris, France: Les Presses De La Cite, 1948. Good in a Good dustjacket. Bound in cream-colored wraps (pb); both the spine and the front panel are stamped in red. 220pps. There is a bit of wear to the edges of the wraps, particularly at the spine-ends. The pages are browning, though quite clean and, though the binding is brittle, all pages are intact. No previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve and utilizing the same front panel artwork as the American first edition, is chipped along the spine-ends and is rubbed and torn along the folds; the rear white panel is somewhat toned and soiled. This edition preceeds even the British debut by four years: a rare and interesting item for collectors of noir and hardboiled fiction. Translated into the French by Gilles-Maurice Dumoulin. Purchase with confidence: all books, gradings, and descriptions are rendered the care of a genuine bibliophile. Satisfaction guaranteed or all costs you've incurred will be promptly refunded.… Read More

Description:
New York: E.P. Dutton & Company, Inc., 1947 218 numbered pp; HB. Spillane's first novel and the first Mike Hammer mystery, written in 19 days. Pages: clean, bright, tight; a.e. lt foxed. Cover: black, red, titles front/spine; moderate shelfwear, extrems worn, edges bumped in several locations, front t.e. crnr bumped. From Wikipedia: "I, the Jury is not just a hard-boiled detective thriller; it is a murder mystery, as well, and Hammer possesses intellectual as well as physical power. Just as Hercule Poirot makes all suspects gather in the library to explain his solution to them, Hammer recapitulates the whole crime in front of the killer. This is a nice variation of this old convention, and it shows that Hammer does not solely rely on his gun and his physical invulnerability: He does use what Poirot would call his 'little grey cells' and carefully puts two and two together until he has solved the mystery."
